(PR-inside.com) SAMARKAND, UZ / ACCESS Newswire / September 26, 2026 / Timur Turlov, founder and chief executive officer of Nasdaq-listed Freedom Holding Corp., has been elected president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) following a vote by the organization's General Assembly in Samarkand.

Turlov received 110 votes in the second round of voting, while the other candidate, Wadim Rosenstein, received 85 votes. Jan-Henrik Büttner was eliminated from the race after the first round. The election took place on Saturday, September 26, in Samarkand.

Turlov ran on a ticket with five-time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand, who was elected FIDE deputy president.
